Responsible gambling: controls that actually hold
No moralising on this page. Tools, their order, and what each one really does. Gambling is entertainment whose price is known in advance — the loss. Everything below exists so that the price stays where it was planned.
The tools, weakest to strongest
| Tool | What it does | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Caps how much money reaches the account | One operator |
| Time limit | Caps session length | One operator |
| Break | Suspends access temporarily | One operator |
| Account closure | Ends the relationship | One operator |
| National register entry | State gambling restriction | Not available in India |
The national register and why it is a different category
India has no national register of gambling restrictions. Online money games have been prohibited there since 1 May 2026, and no licensed market exists for such a register to bind. For comparison, in Estonia a person can set a restriction on themselves through a state register; India has no equivalent. A casino's own setting binds only that casino. It disappears as soon as an account is opened somewhere else, and it depends entirely on the operator's goodwill.
Which is where the licence becomes personal rather than administrative. The register reaches licensed operators. A platform absent from the Tax and Customs Board list falls outside the mechanism entirely, and that is one of the strongest practical arguments for playing only where a permit is checkable. The steps for using it are on the self-exclusion page.
A limit only works set in advance
A deposit cap set before the first stake is an ordinary setting. The same cap set mid-session is already a consequence. The system is built around that asymmetry: tightening applies immediately, loosening applies after a delay. The delay is not friction for its own sake — it moves the decision out of the moment when continuing feels necessary.
Time limits work differently from money limits and are often the more important of the two. The steady rhythm of a live table and the seconds-long round of a slot erase the clock in different ways, but both erase it.
Signs worth noticing
- A deposit is made to win something back rather than to play.
- You remember the amount precisely but not the session length, or the reverse.
- Play is described to people close to you less often, or less accurately, than before.
- Money intended for something else moves to the account „temporarily“.
- A limit keeps being postponed on the grounds that now is the wrong moment.
None of these is a diagnosis. Two at once is reason enough to reread the table above and pick the next row down.
The money side is part of the same question
A budget works better when it is visible. That is a quiet argument for funding methods that leave a statement: a bank route does, a voucher does not. Method detail is on the payments page. Bonuses belong in the same frame. A wagering requirement is an obligation to keep playing, so it deserves consideration before opting in rather than after, as set out on the wagering page.
Age and shared accounts
No Indian-licensed environment sets an age rule here, because online money games are prohibited in India for everyone. Sharing account credentials with a family member means playing under someone else's name. That is a breach of terms, and it comes to light at the payout stage. Account rules are on the registration page.
If you need to speak to someone
Reaching a support service requires closing no account and announcing nothing in advance. In India, the national route is Tele MANAS (MoHFW), a free tele-mental-health helpline on 14416 / 1800-891-4416. It works 24/7 in 20+ languages, but it is not gambling-specific; no national gambling-addiction helpline exists. If the issue concerns a specific case with the operator, the route starts at support and continues along the path on the complaints page. The portal's own role is stated under about and on the home page.
